Igbomotoru, a riverside community in the Southern-Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, appears to be the operational stamping ground for the gang members and suspected mastermind of the carnage, a militant leader who is currently at large.

But last Tuesday, the Nigerian Army, which has been sweeping its net for escaping suspects, captured three people about the soldiers’ deaths in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to sources, the intense hunt for the people responsible for the soldiers’ deaths in the peaceful Okuama has so far reached the communities, creeks, and hiding places in the states of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers. If necessary, it is also expected to reach other Niger Delta states.

Insiders point to differences in oil bunkering, leading many to believe that the soldiers’ deaths had more to do with the land dispute between Okuama and Okoloba in the Bomadi local government area.

According to reports, Lt. Col. Ali had made significant progress against oil thieves in his operational area and was determined to stop them. There were rumors that his murder and the deaths of other military personnel were staged.

This idea was mentioned by General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS), who had given his troops marching orders to find the killers.
