Forest fires ravage 19 states in Mexico

According to information released by the Mexican government on Wednesday, there are currently 120 active forest fires in Mexico, affecting 7,137 hectares across 19 states.

The National Forestry Commission (Conafor) reported that 120 forest fires are occurring in 19 states, with the most destructive being the central state of Hidalgo, which has burned 1,874 hectares so far.

According to Conafor’s preliminary report, there were ongoing fires for which an estimate of the impacted open field was still pending. 42 fires have been put out in the last few days, initially affecting 2,608 hectares.

He gave his word that the fires posed no threat to the public. The president also bemoaned the loss of four lives while fighting fires: two members of the public, a police officer, and a firefighter.
