Gangsters attack LG Hqts, Police Station in Anambra

About thirty gangsters have attacked the local government headquarters in Anaocha, Anambra State, as well as the Neni Police Station.

This incident happened early on Thursday morning. “DPO must go; he has overstayed; he has been in Anaocha for over 15 years,” it was heard the attackers were yelling.

However, the reason behind their attack on the nearby local government office was unclear.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, or PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, denied that any police personnel had been taken away, despite a source claiming that the gangsters had also abducted some police personnel, including some female officers.

The PPRO acknowledged the attack and stated that the thugs used IEDs or improvised explosive devices, but they did not seize any weapons or abduct any police officers.

He claimed that the police officers who engaged the thugs and forced them to flee were able to successfully repel them with their superior firepower.

He added that there was still smooth police activity going on in the area.
