Following a thrilling match that finished 1-1 overall, David Raya’s heroics in goal proved to be the difference as Arsenal won 4-2 on penalties.

Throughout the match, there was a noticeable tension as both teams engaged in intense combat. Arsenal faced a disciplined Porto team and showed tenacity and resolve despite trailing 1-0 in the first leg. Just before halftime, Leandro Trossard gave the Gunners the lead with a composed finish after a wonderful pass from Martin Odegaard.

But Porto was uncompromising, their attacking ability a continual threat. Arsenal’s hopes were preserved by Raya’s vital stops, which stopped Wendell and Galeno in the suspenseful penalty shootout.

Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, highlighted the team’s tenacity over the years while expressing his joy at the hard-fought victory. “It has been fourteen years, which is a long time for a club like Arsenal, and it illustrates the challenges that were faced,” Arteta said. “We had to work hard to identify the pivotal moment at the very end.”

Raya, who is on loan from Brentford, highlighted the importance of making it to the Champions League quarterfinals by calling the victory a “great moment personally and collectively.”
