Two more weeks of fuel shortage are anticipated, according to marketers.

According to the Public Relations Officer of IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike, the current scarcity of petrol may continue for at least two more weeks. He explained that this is due to the fact that the product is currently not available in the country, and sourcing it has become a challenge due to maintenance works on refineries in Europe. This statement comes in response to the widespread scarcity of petrol, which has affected many states in Nigeria. Despite efforts to alleviate the shortage, it seems that the situation will persist for the foreseeable future.

These challenges highlight the vulnerability of the international supply chain and the potential for disruptions to affect domestic supply. It is concerning that many refineries in Europe are undergoing maintenance, making it difficult to source petroleum products. However, the Group CEO of NNPC has reassured us that there will be improvements in the supply chain with the arrival of their vessels. It is crucial for countries to work together to ensure a stable and reliable supply chain to meet the demands of the global market.

In addition, Ukadike highlighted that the current shortage of petroleum products is not solely due to the recent disruption in supply, but also the result of importation challenges and delays in the renewal of marketers’ licenses by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA. As such, it may take even longer than two to three months for normalcy to return, as these underlying issues must be addressed in order for a sustainable solution to be achieved.
