This was reported by former BBC reporter and current writer for the Guardian, Osasu Obayiuwana.

Imagine your favorite player from the past deciding to become the boss of the team – that’s exactly what’s happening here. Amuneke, who once dazzled us with his skills on the field, is now eyeing the chance to lead the Super Eagles from the sidelines.

The Super Eagles coaching position is like being the chief strategist of the national football squad. It involves making important decisions, inspiring the players, and devising clever game plans to outsmart the opposition. Amuneke, with his experience both as a player and a coach, believes he’s got what it takes to steer the team to success.

The 53-year-old who is one of the leading candidates to take over from Peseiro has handled the Nigeria U-17 side and Tanzania national team in the past, he made a statement and I quote, “Yes I did [apply to be the next manager],” Amuneke told popular journalist Osazu Obayiwana.

This isn’t just about Amuneke fulfilling a personal dream; it’s about bringing his passion and knowledge to the table for the benefit of Nigerian football. Remember those thrilling moments when Amuneke scored crucial goals for the Super Eagles? Now, he’s aiming to create new moments, but this time, as the mastermind behind the scenes.
