King Charles III of Britain will attend an Easter Sunday church service, Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday. This will be his most prominent engagement since disclosing he had cancer.

The Easter Mattins Service at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle will be attended by Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla a long-standing yearly custom of the British royal family.

The 75-year-old princess of Wales, Catherine, the daughter-in-law of the king, revealed last week that she was also undergoing cancer treatment. This announcement follows her admission.

That puts the monarchy in a position of unprecedented crisis given that two of its most senior members are battling grave illnesses at the same time.

Future queen Catherine, 42, is wed to Prince William, the eldest son and heir of Charles.

In early February, just 17 months into his reign, the palace declared that Charles had cancer and that he would be stopping all public appearances while he began treatment.

He had been diagnosed with an unrelated cancer after being admitted for surgery in January to treat a benign prostate condition.

It is unknown what kind of cancer it is.

He has been working behind the scenes, attending official events more frequently, and holding occasional in-person meetings.

He was pictured on Tuesday at central London’s Buckingham Palace meeting with leaders of the community and religion.

Photographs from two different engagements last week showed him meeting with Korean War veterans and diplomats at the palace.

In an announcement made earlier this month, Charles said he would carry on serving “to the best of my ability” and that the well-wishes for his health had “deeply touched” him.

He revealed last week that Kate, as she is popularly called, was receiving chemotherapy in a video message, and he praised her for her bravery.

Her last known appearance was on December 25 at a public event. She had abdominal surgery in January, following which cancer was discovered.

She was not expected to be prepared to resume her public duties until after Easter, according to her Kensington Palace office at the time.
