Seven Bodies Of Abducted travellers in forest Recovered By The Taraba Police

Following the attack on an 18-seater bus that fell victim to an ambush at Gamkwe village in the Donga Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday. It has been confirmed that seven bodies of the victims have been found dead by the Taraba Police.

The bus conveying the passengers was brutally attacked by suspected vigilante people on their way from Zako Biam in Benue State to Maihula in the Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State. The attack left 15 passengers, including women and children, missing.

It was said that the reason for the attack by the vigilante was as a result of the loss of one of their own and out of anger launched the attack on the bus, accusing the passengers (Tivs) of being responsible for the death of the deceased vigilante member.

According to the statement dropped on Wednesday, the State Police Commissioner, CP David Iloyonomon, made a revelation that the bodies were found as a result of their men patrolling to help reduce the rising tension between the Ichen and Tiv ethnic groups in the Donga Local Government Area of the State. He further specified that among the seven recovered bodies were five women, a baby, and a man.

The commissioner further explained that the incident that occurred on Tuesday was stirred up as a result of the missing persons which the Ichen youths from the Mararaba area of Donga LGA reported to the Police Area Command in the area that a Pastor and his church member were missing while on their way to the church.

According to Iloyonomon, the youth on the same day, found the decomposing bodies of the missing persons and began attacking the Tiv residents in the town.

The commissioner said and I quote, “It took the efforts of our men to rescue some of the Tiv people to Takum for safety,” he said.

“Today, while our men were on patrol to maintain law and order and to ensure that peace returns, they found seven dead bodies including five women, a man, and a baby. The corpses have been evacuated to the police station.”
