Tinubu swears in 17 National Population Commissioners

At the Presidential Villa’s Council Chamber in Abuja on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu gave the National Population Commission’s seventeen commissioners their oath of office.

The president presided over a brief exercise before the Federal Executive Council or FEC, and the meeting started.

Eight new Commissioners were also sworn in, along with nine Commissioners who were reappointed and sworn in for a second term.

The commissioners were sworn in in three groups of six, six, and five people each. Following people took the oath of office for the first time:

  1. Blessyn Brume-Maguha (Delta)
  2. Jeremiah Nwankwegu (Ebonyi)
  3. Alex Ukam (Cross River)
  4. Chidi Ezeoke (Anambra)
  5. Emmanuel Eke (Abia)
  6. Mary Afan (Plateau)
  7. Ogiri Henry (Rivers)
  8. Aminu Tsanyawa (Kano)
  9. Sa’adatu Garba (Kaduna)
  10. Yori Afolabi (Kogi)

The people who were reappointed are:

  1. Abubakar Damburam (Gombe)
  2. Uba Nnabue (Imo)
  3. Clifford Zirra (Adamawa)
  4. Isa Buratai (Borno)
  5. Tony Alyejina (Edo)
  6. Sani Sale (Taraba).

Remember that following the Committee on National Identity Card and Population’s adoption of its screening report on Wednesday, the Senate recently confirmed the nomination and reappointment of 17 of the 19 NPC commissioners that President Tinubu had nominated on February 21, 2023.
