President Bola Tinubu requested the repeal of the Student Loan Act (Access to Higher Education Act, 2023) and the enactment of a new one. Mr. Tinubu’s action comes one day after it was announced that the student loan system would be temporarily suspended.

“By addressing issues with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund’s (NELF) management structure, applicant eligibility requirements, loan purpose, funding sources, and disbursement and repayment procedures, the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024 aims to improve the Higher Education Student Loan Scheme’s implementation.
The Speaker said, “Please accept, Rt. Honourable Speaker, the assurances of my highest consideration, while hoping that this submission will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the House of Representatives.”
